Next week the Red Dead Online Beta frontier expands with all new Free Roam Events, a host of new Showdown Modes, and new Races coming as part of its first title update on Tuesday, February 26. This update also brings the first batch of new Weapons, Clothing, and Emotes for your character, as well as a series of improvements and balances detailed last week. Also starting on Tuesday, February 26 look out for new content and special promotions weekly.

New Gameplay
New additions will include the Fool’s Gold Free Roam Event, where players will compete to control an equal parts gaudy and protective suit of Golden Armor. Fight to take down the armor wearer to earn points and claim it as your own, then turn the tables and earn points for kills while wearing the armor.

Compet*tive Challenges gets a fresh catch with Fishing Challenges. Fishing Challenges are broken out by type, opt in to the challenge and you’ll receive all the equipment necessary to compete including the rod as well lures and bait specific to the challenge type, whether it’s crickets for a river challenge, crayfish for the swamp or worms for lakes. Then head to an appropriate body of water to take part – also, you’ll be made safe from the nuisance of trigger-happy outlaws while you are taking the challenge. Catch the highest weight total of fish to win.

Also on the way are three new Showdown Modes where players and teams compete to capture and deliver bags, steal loot from each other and survive. Stay tuned for more details around Up in Smoke, Spoils of War and Plunder. Races will also see a new variation with Target Races where players shoot targets from horseback to pass checkpoints as they race along a track to the finish line.

Sporting an antique style faded brass finish and an artfully adorned stock. Both weapons will be available via the Wheeler & Rawson Catalogue and local Gunsmiths.

In addition to all the clothing that will be available for purchase at your leisure, keep an eye on the shops and the Catalogue for unique special items that will come and go. A variety of new Emotes is also on the way – featuring everything from greets to reactions and taunts.

PS4 Early Access Content
In addition to new Target Races, PlayStation 4 players will have early access to Open Target Raceswhere you compete in an open space to take out the most targets on horseback. PS4 players will also get early access to the Jawbone Knife, a unique melee weapon with a handle artfully carved from the remains of a slain animal’s jaw, as well as a range of new clothing options and 3 new Emotes.

New modes sound fun. The fishing challenges should also be a fun addition for those who are into that.

Looks to be some trapper style clothing we are getting, though I wouldn't put my money on trappers being added.

Will the Lancaster be the new top dog with the Varmint Rifle being nerfed or do you think the Evans Repeater will come in and take the spot? It was in the first game but I really can't remember how good it was.

Just hoping they don't fuck up the Varmint rifle for hunting. I can just see it taking 2 hits to kill a toad.

Nerf this, Nerf that.

It will all be for nothing once the rock is removed from that Bigfoot cave up north and players find the Deluxo ;)

They aren't touching the damage, only adjusting the accuracy so it's more in line with the other rifles.

Us that play pvp have been waiting for this.

I wish they removed the headshot multiplier on players for varmint. It would do the job as well without making it worse at hunting...

It could be an ok small update as long as it comes with bug fixes.

I've been logging in sporadically ever since Apex Legends came out, got burned out hunting for treasure maps and never getting one and not being to sell the stuff I've hunted down. Is the butcher still broken?

Might try the fishing challenges as I still need to max my health and farming NPCs with a knife gets boring fast. Not giving up on the game yet but unless we're organising something I'm not feeling like logging in for new emotes and hats. On a bright side, I've progressed more on the singleplayer story! :)

Why the hate for the emotes?

I'm not 12.

The PvP I took part in was fun because of the VM. Dropping some diving idiot from across the map was glorious.

No surprises there. Nothing new is actually added. It's just more variations of existing basic activities and some drip-feeding. Still nothing useful for posses, no free aim... a big ol' nothing as far as I'm concerned. They had better get their act together by June and have an actual content update out by then. No excuses, they have more resources than probably any other company out there and 5+ years of experience from GTA Online.

I wish they would remove the delay when firing weapons then again it might be it's like GTAO where you have to be lvl 100. Fix the way point issue cinematic view, where you sometime turn back to the direction that you were coming from. Speeding up swimming & putting small animals on your horse would be nice.

Between the weapon bloom effect, the ability cards & the delay when firing weapons, I can't really find a problem with the varmint rifle. I think there's big isis here that's already backed into their system.

They told their investors that big things are coming in the summer so I guess that's the point where the game will be alittle bit decent with content.

I don't think I'll like the player proximity visibility. I don't care if they can see me. I want to be able to see THEM!

Welcome to the nuthouse or the slaughter house................it.just depends!

You never know what's going to happen, but rest assured, it's gonna be fun!
