I'll try it, but I'm an old school gamer and 3rd person is how I learned to drive in games.

3rd person was how I learned to rally on Colin McRae 2.0 when I wasn’t old enough to write my own name legibly (not that I can now mind)

its better for the first few times till you get a good look at the stages and then maybe 1st person after that

I've also raced only in 3rd person in most of the racing games I've ever played, including Colin McRae Rally 2005 and GTA V, but once I tried 1st person in GT5, NFS: Shift 2 and the newest rally and racing games, I started preferring that where possible. Makes it much more immersive and gives better control over the cars. I don't have a problem using one in some games and the other in other games, though.

My preference is bonnet camera view

I find actual driver first person view too far back so I'm not able to focus on the road as well

Germany videos.

I tried 1st person view until the big spin out. Just couldn't handle it. Sorry the replay on this one and the next suck.

Lost my lights on the crash about half way through. That made things a bit more interesting.

Hood cam is best in DiRT IMO, you can better judge your entry angle, especially during slides, think I uploaded some videos ages ago.

Cockpit view sucks in this game, wheel rotation doesn't match mine and sense of speed seems off.

@Protocawlhow do I set this up in a single event so I can practice all stages?

Under Custom Championships I believe.

I'll check it in a few hrs.

Custom championship is random stages deliberately so players can't earn credits on their favourite stages. Probably have to use time trial or the equivalent.

Sorry, a heist took too long last night, so didn't have time to check, but I did now.

Not sure about career custom championships, but those are irrelevant. When you start the game up, in the main menu there's "Custom Event" - choose that, then pick how many stages and exactly which ones and which weather settings you want to.

I will do it today. :)

Completely destroyed my lights on the night stage despite trying to be careful. I was finally clicking by the last stage.

Well, here are videos of the replays from Stages 1, 2, and 5. 1 and 2 show how my Welsh Rally went. It was bad... really bad. I can conclusively say that the Welsh Rally can suck on my nuts! I have to assume that I just wasn't ready for this at all. However, here are the videos.

Stage 5 was the best Stage of the whole event for me. Wales was hard on my poor little Peugeot. As evidenced by all the body damage, and smoke coming from under the hood.

@Dodge you did better than me :D

I didn't have a door after the first stage and my car was practically crawling over the line at the end of the fifth.

Welsh stages are the toughest to get right. My first 4 Welsh rallies in career mode were horrible. I've only recently started getting a clean run here and there on those roads.

I hated the damn roads, but the more I get used to them, the more I love and appreciate them. :)

Took a very long time to become friends with the Welsh rally stages...

Event 3 Race Report.

Stage 1:  I went pretty cautious here, I didn't want too many time penalties and also didn't want to fuck up my car too much.  Think I did pretty well, probably my best stage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DlYtgCcMeo

Stage 2: Same as before, I drove pretty cautiously, it went well for the most part but I did have some small crashes later on in the stage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTOBak5ldmQ

Stage 3: Here's where it starts to go downhill.  For the most part I drove pretty well, a couple of minor crashes.  Towards the end I had a couple of pretty big ones which smashed my car up pretty good, this would have consequences in the next stage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP756rMbclk

Stage 4: Right.  So pretty close to the start of this stage I lost my rear left tyre which pretty much fucked me, keeping it in a straight line after that left me sweating it took so much effort.  I paused it on a couple of occasions to see if there was any way to fix it, but there wasn't so I had to drag my sorry ass to the finish in a dreadful time.

https://youtu.be/CCXWP1FmMOA

Stage 5: Back on four wheels!  Not for long though, as toward the start of this stage I lose my front left tyre, but I managed to pull it through to the finish line.  Losing a front tyre is a lot easier to control than losing a back one :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkSxv4aYX7g

Stage 6: A pretty mixed bag here, 85 percent I think I drove quite well, but towards the end I have a pretty big crash and yes, you guessed it, I lost another tyre, front right I think.  I did take the option to repair it at a minute and a half time penalty cost, but I was sick of driving on three wheels.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aXWxiV50Wo

I think my driving is getting a lot better in this game, and these were my favourite tracks in the game so far, I prefer them over Wales by some way :D And just a VR sidenote, these are also some of the best roads to experience like that, especially when the trees are lining both sides of the road and are whipping past at 100mph, it's a fucking blast :D

Event 3 is done. Everything was going pretty well until I got a puncture in Stage 4. And an engine miss in the same wreck. So Stage 4 was bad and the engine miss hampered my stage 5. But it was fun Event.

I had some proper crashes in Stage 1 & lost both rear tyres in Stage 2, which led to me being over 6mins behind on time and an engine failure in the middle of Stage 5, which means I was forced to retire from Rally Finland. Enjoyed the stages, though, just disappointed with my first 2 stages.

11hrs left to complete Event 3! @Beez, @Road2fury

Thank heavens there is that much time left! I thought I might miss this one. I'll do it sometime once I get home. Sounds like I need to really take care of the car.

DiRT 4 came out on PS4 in June 2017 and it's a rally game different from it's predecessor DiRT Rally. It caters more to players not very familiar with rallying or just looking for a casual rally experience (much like what you could find from DiRT 3), but has plenty of different modes and gameplay improvements to make it fun for anyone.
[DiRT 4 is on sale on the US PS Store for $14.99 until May 22!
DiRT 4 is currently on sale on the UK and EU PS Store for a mere £24 for PS Plus members until 23/11/17 11:59pm]
      Main features of DiRT 4:
There's a choice between Arcade and Simulation handling mechanics and one can easily switch between the two at any time between rally events should they wish to do so. The stage rallies have a feature called "Your Stage" that creates custom rally stages using certain settings and parameters chosen by the player or generated randomly, which means that there's a huge amount of partly similar (stages are made of bits and pieces and the same pieces show up in different parts of different custom stages), but unique rally stages in the game. There's a rich progressive singleplayer career mode, an optional fun trial mode "joyride" (returning from DiRT 3), a fully customisable lobby multiplayer mode "jam session" for all the available rally types, a competitive stage rally MP mode "Pro Tour", daily/weekly/monthly events with leaderboards & big cash rewards, and a solo practice session where you can hone your skills with any car you want. You can also build your own team, pick sponsors, create your team livery and use your personal rally cars in almost every game mode. There's plenty of livery and sponsor options as well as enough space in your garage for over 100 vehicles (after a few upgrades). Loan cars are available for use at all times if you want to try the cars out before you buy a personal one. Earning cash is a much faster process than it is in DiRT Rally, with also more vehicles and team facilities to spend it on. DiRT 4 also has a pretty damn good soundtrack for a rally game.

      Available Rally Types and Locations:
      Stage Rally, Historic Rally:
Fitzroy, Australia Tarragona, Spain Värmland, Sweden Michigan, USA Powys, Wales Footage: all the outrageous things that can happen in one rally stage:

      Rallycross:
Lydden Hill, England Höljes, Sweden Hell, Norway Montalegre, Portugal Lohéac, France
      Landrush (stadium truck/buggy racing):
California, USA Nevada, USA Baja, Mexico Footage: buggy racing:

Landrush vehicles: Speedcar Xtrem (crosscart), Larock 2XR Buggy, Jackson Pro-Truck 2, Jackson Pro-Truck 4

Watch more videos from my DiRT 4 Playlist on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3Mx-66MNeVZ1iE_PCy4V70ZAZeiqYIPw

Personally, I love both DiRT 4, which is an immensely fun high-quality rally game, and DiRT Rally, which offers tons of enjoyment through a very authentic rally simulation. I continue to play both and would love to play either with any of you from time to time if you have or decide to get either DiRT game.
